The McGill brand has more than a century of experience in the bearing industry, and is known as the inventor of the cam follower. Their top of the line products offer industry solutions across a variety of applications.

Cam Follower Bearing Types

McGill cam follower bearings offer high dynamic and static load carrying capabilities, all in a compact, ergonomic design. When choosing a cam follower for your application, there are many factors to consider based on the job at hand, and the specific weights and speeds required. The two major types of cam followers are yoke rollers and stud rollers. McGill yoke rollers are typically used in applications with heavier loads, where standard conditions exceed the capabilities of stud-type cam followers. They require clevis or shaft-mounted installation, which provides support on both sides of the cam follower and permits use of a high-strength pin.

Cam followers and cam follower bearings are essential components in a variety of industrial operations involving conveyors as well as process transfer lines. Used in a wide range of industries including metal processing, power generation, food processing, packaging, transportation, automation, and more, cam followers can be easily mounted and are well-suited for many cam or track roller applications with moderate loads. Again, McGill yoke rollers are the ideal choice for applications with heavy loads.

The line of McGill yoke rollers includes:

  • Crowned & flat yoke rollers
  • Flanged yoke rollers
  • V-groove yoke rollers

McGill Yoke rollers are available in both crowned and flat styles, and perform while carrying heavy axial and radial loads. Also called yoke track rollers, these components feature thick outer rings, and can have cylindrical rollers, needle rollers, tapered rollers, balls, or bushings. When clevis or shaft mounting is required, yoke rollers are used. Crowned yoke rollers feature outer rollers slightly curved into a crown-like shape to keep the roller centered on misaligned and non-flat surfaces. McGill yoke rollers also feature a high dynamic load capability. Flat yoke rollers are used when a track is misaligned, and they can support the same static load as a heavy stud follower can.

V-Groove Yoke Rollers

V-groove yoke rollers are designed to handle both radial and axial loads, also referred to as thrust loads. They operate on V-shaped tracks, and feature deep V grooves that effectively keep the rollers on designated tracks. In some applications, tapered roller bearings or deep-groove ball bearings can be used with V-groove yoke rollers.
